~ Hay should make up 85% of a Holland Lop’s diet to ensure digestive health and prevent issues like GI stasis.
~ Fresh vegetables are vital for providing additional nutrients; introduce them gradually to avoid digestive problems.
~ Pellets should comprise only 10% of the diet, and treats like fruits should be given sparingly to maintain overall health.
Bunnies, especially lops, are very clean animals and can actually be litter trained. We recommend getting a cat-sized litter box and filling it with either paper-based or wood pellets along with hay, which can help train your bunny to use the bathroom inside the litter box.
When it comes to bathing, bunnies should not be bathed because it can cause them to go into shock, which would be extremely unfortunate. We understand accidents can happen, and 9 times out of 10, the bunny will clean itself. If you find yourself in a situation where you need to help clean your bunny, I recommend using a baby wipe or a warm rag to gently wipe away any dirt or accidents. Ensure that the bunny isn't damp, as this can lead to them getting really cold, so make sure the area is pretty dry.
For grooming, particularly for Holland lops, frequent brushing is advisable as they tend to shed quite a bit.
Additionally, bunnies' teeth can grow very long and cause health issues and discomfort, so it’s essential to provide your bunny with unlimited hay daily to help grind down its teeth. Having a good supply of toys to chew on will also assist in maintaining your bunny's dental health. Lastly, bunnies' nails should be clipped regularly, and bunny clippers are recommended for this task.
